Remote Nar Phu Valley Trek in Nepal

The Nar Phu Valley Trek starts with a quick sightseeing tour of the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites of  Kathmandu valley. As we get our permits. We shall enjoy a welcome dinner hosted by the company. The next day, we shall drive to Besisahar through the Prithvi Highway. From Besisahar, the drive continues along the Marsayangdi River to make a stop at Koto. We need to walk on the banks of Nar Khola to reach Meta.

The trail now portrays Tibetan-like features with its drylands and strong winds. On the road to Phu, we pass the ancient Khampa settlement. The Tibetan refugees used to live here during the time of war.  We spend a night in Phu village and the next day.

We will head out to explore the Tashi Lhakhang Monastery. After visiting the Himlung Himal Base Camp, we head to the Nar Phedi monastery and then ultimately to the Nar village. This is a small village with lodges. The road to Ngawal provides us surreal views of Annapurna, Gangapurna, and Tilicho ranges.

A short Hike through the forested tracks take us to Pisang and from there we will catch a bus heading to Besisahar and then another ride takes us to Kathmandu where the 12-day trip shall come to an end.

Itinerary

You will enter Nepal along with the views of the Himalayas. You will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport where our representative will welcome you. Exiting the airport, you will drive all the way to your hotel. You can head out to explore the attractions in the valley or choose to rest. We will host you a welcome dinner at the end of the day.

Today is set for exploration of three major UNESCO world heritage sites of the Kathmandu valley, namely Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath. Enjoy a delicious Nepali lunch before continuing the tour. Later, we will go on a journey that takes us to Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square. Meanwhile, we can also do some preparations for the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Wake up early to catch a bus that takes you to Besisahar. The drive takes you along the Prithvi highway and you can see small settlements in Dhading and Galchi. Besisahar is a starting point for those on the Annapurna Circuit Trek. After we arrive here, we drive north all the way to Koto. Koto is a small settlement inhabited by Tamang people. Overnight in Koto.

The morning starts with a quick legal procedure of registering our permits in Meta. We shall walk on the banks of the Nar River and head through pine forests and suspension bridges. We reach Dharmasala which is a resting hub. As we move further, the Tibetan plateau becomes prominent and the view of Annapurna Himalayas becomes much clearer. Meta is a small village that sits on a huge plain and comprises of small lodges. Overnight in Meta.

The route for today sees a sudden increase and decrease in altitude, which is pretty amazing. The trail is decorated with ruins of the ancient Khampa settlement. We reach Kyang, which was the place Khampa refugees lived during the war in Tibet. The trail cascades along the Phu Khola and reaches a rocky trail. Phu village comprises of numerous Tibetan themed houses too. Overnight in Phu.

Today, we won’t be doing any sort of trekking but rather we shall spend the day acclimatizing. We shall explore the culture and traditions of the residents here who belong to Tibetan ethnic groups. We will explore the Tashi Lhakhang monastery which is listed as one of the world’s oldest monasteries. We shall hike all the way to the Himlung Base Camp from where the view of Himlung Himal (7126m) is amazing. Overnight in Phu.

The trail from Phu to Nar Phedi sees us take the road to Meta, and then take a quick turn towards the Nar Phedi monastery. There are no settlements on the road to Nar, and the monastery is one of the prominent religious monuments on the trail. You can explore the monastery and learn about its significance in the local culture and way of life. Overnight in Nar Phedi.

Make your way out of the Nar Phedi and head towards the top of the Nar Pass (5400m). The top offers scintillating views of the Himlung, Annapurna, and Damodar Himal ranges. The trail descends along delicately painted Chortens and heads south to reach Nar. The trail sits close to the densely visited Annapurna trail. The Nar village is livelier and warmer than Phu village. There are small Teahouses in this area too. Overnight in Nar village.

We shall cross the Kang La Pass (5320m) today and head on the popular Annapurna Circuit route. The pass is pretty steep but can be done. On the top, you can see peaks like Annapurna (8091m), Gangapurna (7454m), and Tilicho (7134m) along with the Chulu ranges. Take a quick break and then head towards Ngawal which later connects Pisang. There are many lodges and camps here. Overnight in Ngawal.

As we head to Pisang, the temperature starts to increase and the trail becomes much green. The altitude also starts to decrease dramatically. There is a beautiful lake just beside the trail. We reach Pisang after walking for 4 hours. Pisang comprises of small lodges and Teahouses. We shall drive to Besisahar from Pisang which takes only a while. Overnight in Besisahar.

From Besisahar, we shall get on a private vehicle and head towards Kathmandu. The drive goes through the beautiful Prithvi Highway and we will be accompanied by the flowing Trishuli River. We shall take a quick break at Galchi. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, head to your hotel. You can go for souvenir shopping once you reach Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu.

As your exciting trip in Nepal comes to end, you can feel free to shop for gifts and souvenirs. According to your departure flight, you can also explore the city. Later, a company representative will take you back to the airport for your scheduled flight to the next destination.
