11 Days Mardi Himal Trek

The Mardi Himal trek is a comparatively new trail lying in the isolated section of the Annapurna region. Lying almost 20 km northwest of Pokhara, the trek offers the up-close views of Machhapuchhre Peak (6997m) and Annapurna I (8091m). Mardi Himal Trek takes you all the way to Mardi Himal Base Camp through lush Bamboo and Rhododendron forests inside Annapurna Conservation Area. The trek is an easy journey that is relatively pristine and lesser crowded compared to the nearby Annapurna Base Camp and Ghorepani Poonhill treks.

The Mardi Himal Trek

The begins upon your arrival in Kathmandu followed by a scenic sightseeing tour of the historical Kathmandu City. Enjoy visiting some of the popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu such as Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Boudhanath. The trip moves almost 200 km west of Kathmandu to the touristic Pokhara city. You’ll drive an hour northwest to reach Kande village from where you’ll officially begin the trek.

The trek gradually advances along with the quaint and serene rhododendron forests.  You’ll pass through Australian Base Camp, Deurali, Low Camp, and High Camp before arriving at Mardi Himal Base Camp (4500m). Although known as the Upper Camp, the base camp offers great views of the Annapurna massif, Machhapuchhre (6997m), and Mardi Himal (5553m).

After enjoying the majestic sceneries, you’ll begin heading down through the alpine shrubs and lush Rhododendron forests towards Lumre. You’ll retrace your path and descent to Siding village from where you’ll catch your commute back to Pokhara. The trip concedes upon your return to Kathmandu. The trek has undertaken mostly during spring (Mar-Jun) and autumn (Sep-Nov) seasons for great visibility and accessibility.

You will enter Nepal along with the views of the Himalayas. You will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport where our representative will welcome you. Exiting the airport, you will drive all the way to your hotel. You can head out to explore the attractions in the valley or choose to rest. We will host you a welcome dinner at the end of the day.

You’ll embark on a cultural tour of Kathmandu City. Accompanied by a tour guide, you’ll make a tour around the city and visit some of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath. Also the tourist landmarks, these UNESCO designates sites are massively frequented by tourists.Swayambhunath and Boudhanath are two of the major Buddhist sites in Kathmandu, while Pashupatinath is the largest Hindu temple in the country. If time permits, you can visit the historical Kathmandu Durbar Square.

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a road journey 200km west of Kathmandu. Pokhara is a tourist city popular for various kinds of adventure sports including bungee and paragliding. The scenic ride offers a unique experience of riding through the serpentine roads of central west Nepal. Overnight at Pokhara.

After early breakfast, you’ll embark on a short road journey northwest of Pokhara. You’ll drive west of Pokhara to reach Kande. After a brief rest at Kande, you’ll commence trekking into Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail ascends through the lush forests of Annapurna region and goes towards Australian Camp from where you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of Annapurna massif. The trail further climbs and reaches Deurali and continues through the forested path to arrive at Forest camp.

Leaving Forest Camp, you’ll continue along the lushly decorated Rhododendron forest towards Low Camp. The Low Camp at Mardi Himal only has few lodges and grants the scenic views of Machhapuchhre (6997m) and Mardi Himal (5553m) among others. You can trek an hour more towards Badal Danda (Cloud ridge) to enjoy a clearer and closer view of the surrounding mountains.

You’ll wake up with the beautiful sight of the mountains. Today, you’ll climb further and make your way towards the High Camp (3550m). You’ll climb closer to the ridge laded with Rhododendron forest. At high camp, you’ll mostly encounter the shrubby or alpine vegetation. From here, you can witness the majestic snowcapped mountains including Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre. Overnight at High Camp.

The final ascent of the trek, you’ll head towards Upper View Point. You’ll continue trekking along the steeper trail to approach Mardi Himal Base Camp. It may take well over 2hr to reach the viewpoint. Once at the viewpoint or Mardi Himal Base Camp, you can relish the best panoramic view of the valley including the towering peaks namely Machhapuchhre, Annapurna I, Gangapurna, and Annapurna III. In the noon, you’ll descend to High Camp for the overnight stay.

Leaving High Camp, you’ll begin descending along the same Rhododendron forested trail. Instead of going down the same way, you’ll take a different route and trek towards Siding village that lies close to the Low Camp. Siding is a traditional Magar village lying amidst the lush forests on the foothills of Mardi Himal. Overnight at Siding.

Leaving Siding, you’ll trek down to Lumre village. From here, you can catch your commute back to Pokhara City. You’ll walk past Kalimati and Ghalel villages en route to Siding. Unlike other villages in the region, Kalimati village mostly comprises of Brahmin inhabitants while Ghalel consists of mixed inhabitants including Brahmin and Gurung. Overnight at Pokhara.

You’ll bid farewell to Pokhara city and make your way back to Kathmandu. The majestic view of Machhapuchhre and Annapurna I will be clearly visible while you depart. The 6-7hr drive will take you through the lush forested hills, gorges, and towns along the Trishuli River. Once at Kathmandu, you will check-in at the hotel. Our representative will come to pick you up in the evening for the farewell dinner in one of the finest diners in Kathmandu.

You’ll leave for the airport. Our representative will drive you back to the airport approximately 2 hour early so to avoid any delays from traffic congestion.
